Happy Monday......

On this Monday morning I read an interesting blog post about Millennial’s, especially the female faction. The research is showing that if we are able to target and reach the 9-12 aged girls that we will be able to have a greater impact on the 20% that is currently going to secondary/collage for degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) I have included the original blog post as I think this is a huge and widespread area of improvement... http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoftupblog/archive/2012/08/03/girls-supporting-girls-in-technology.aspx

People and Tools in the Digital Space by Kay Kelison

Guest Post: By Kay Kelison

Google rolled out a new search enhancement that shows results when you type, called Google Instant. While it’s true that this feature is innovative, one should question whether innovation equates to more relevant search results. In truth, there is no correlation between speed either quality or relevance of results. So, when you get the 10 blue links does the fact you got them faster mean the search and results were smarter? After all, Aesop warned us of the folly of relying purely on speed. Last year Bing’s search engine was tweaked to produce Real Live Search, which loaded full results pages as users typed. Stefan Weitz, Bing’s director, is featured in USA Today were he talks about how Bing is trying to do search smarter, and that faster doesn’t always equal smarter. He continues to explain that it’s a good thing to produce search results quickly, but that doesn’t always mean it is going to be the type of results that users are looking for thus not really saving them any time. Combining with Yahoo is helping them not only gain access to more information, but with the increase of information Bing can bring users more relevant results faster. “When you think about state-of-the-art searching, it should be less about searching and more about finding” says Weitz.

one drink = M&B... Nope don't think so!!!

So what is up with people that want to be serious after one drink...

I seem to have this experience more often than not... one drink and we are walking down the isle getting married and cranking out babies... Um yeah, I feel that I am pretty open about where I am at emotionally.... destroyed, crushed and annihilated. I am a mess and well that is just how it is for right now. I just got out of a three year relationship with someone that I thought I would marry. Well not so much and of course without much of an explanation either.... my dumb ass should have been reading the signs but I was deluding myself into thinking that it was... (insert crazy chick excuses here). So now blogging about my experiences and how figuring out me and what I want... welcome the the journey that should have started.... um.... well when I popped out... I am a slow starter on the emotional stuff. Is it wrong to just want to be responsible to myself not have to worry about what someone else wants and just have fun without and pressure...

Another key point in this whole process... I recently relocated to Texas..... This will be a journey of self discovery, finding my backbone, getting healthy, expressing myself and growing the hell up!

Labor Day

On Today of all days I should be happy for a rest right????

All I can think about is when will I find the RIGHT job, the RIGHT Company and the RIGHT team? I have looked high and low I have put myself out there and focused on companies that I really want to work for. I recently spoke to another HR/Recruiter about the job hunt and found that they were working in catering doing a short gig. Is this the time to branch out looking into the culinary, bar, and other jobs that would take me away from what I love?

I think NO! I think that I need to focus on being positive, utilize my sourcing skills and keep on searching. I KNOW that the right place is out there for me! I have excellent skills, a go get em attitude that will help me to finesse and power through any deadline or situation. I am choosing to focus on the positive and stay upbeat through this economical downturn. I have some many blessings that I am thankful for!

So for all of you who are out of work on this Labor Day, do focus on the positive and get around people that are supportive and will help you stay focused. Reach out to your community and let people know what you are specifically looking for and what contacts you have that will aid in your search. Most companies are hiring based on who they KNOW. Employees are being asked "Do you know of anyone one that would has the skills and culture fit for our company". Talk about what you want in a position and what you have to offer. Don't settle for something that is mediocre. Your career path will change an average of seven times in your life time. So chin up and stay focused this Labor Day. You haven't Labored in vain!

Just Craziness

So the past week and half has just been a bunch of craziness....

Tuesday of last week was going to Kennedy Conference in Vegas.... Stayed at Encore which was beautiful(even the hallways were artwork-sat in one on Friday and read for three hours) other than not being able to sleep at all. The first night I can totally understand... new bed, new room, no white noise and who really wants to sleep while in Vegas. That was the night of Kate Spade and Nordstrom.... we were escorted out after keeping the salesperson after closing looking for a way to get the second, off white Kate that I wanted. (I have a new plan for that by the way. I am very happy with the one the I brought home, she has a good home now.) That was an adventure I think I had five handbags in my hand before I made the final choice... and boy was it a tough one. What can I say I love black.

After the conference and a couple of vodka dirty martinis in the casino we headed to Michael Mina for dinner. Let’s just say that dirty martinis on an empty stomach are not such a good plan for me... I made it in one piece to dinner and had an amazing six course meal with wine parings that was fabulous. My favorites included the Truffle SoufflĂ©, the lobster pot pie, and the root beer float. I would rate this meal in my top five easily. Now getting back to the hotel was a bit of a struggle but it worked out with a few detours....

Next was sorta but not really sleeping until about four that is when I said enough is enough and started to read Atlas Shrugged again totally engrossed in this book. I am loving it.... heard stories from my business partner about getting solicited in the casino at five in the morning by what we suspect was a person released from prison recently.... Only in Vegas right???

Now Tuesday of this week was spent at the Twitter Conference in Mountainview CA. I met some amazing people and my twitter knowledge has grown exponentially. We promoted Tweetajob and worked on finalizing the logo while listening to some great speakers. At 3:35 I had a diet coke.....

Tuesday night was a bit more of an issue... So let me say that the first night in a new bed is well, tough. I never sleep well the first night.... ever! So I have had a couple of dirty martinis (they are the new theme for me right now) and was really hoping that they would counteract the caffeine from earlier.... not so much. So here I am trying to sleep in with room with full sized beds, (let me mention that there were three of us sharing a room) and two people that snore. Um ok so here is the deal check it out..... I am a light sleeper unless.... (that is a whole other story) I am exhausted haven't slept and need to sleep so that the inner bitch stays in check and doesn't completely rear its ugly head. To solve my issue of needing white noise and a lack of snoring I opted to sleep on the bathroom floor for the sake of my own sanity. I have had way better accommodations! So the moral of the story is... I need my own bed, in my own room, with white noise so that I will not have to sleep voluntarily on a bathroom floor again.....

Now I am in Portland.... let the craziness continue.....
