Social Networking

Social Networking......

Yesterday I listened to Carmen Hudson talk about how easy it is to Social Network while at the SHRM SMA lunch. It was great! Carmen challenged recruiters, sourcers, HR and business people to start realizing how easy and simple it is to get started.

I am amazed at how many people don't have a LinkedIn account, are afraid to get connected with people on Facebook and have no idea what a powerful tool Twitter is...

That being said I am a baby when it comes to learning all of this stuff and had a friend point out that not connecting to people and building relationships is a really really bad move....

So here I am not a writer not really anyone but out talking about what I do love... the connection with people...

We are getting to the point where we will not rely on computers any more but we will be solely mobile... what a thought that we will be able to keep up today with as many as a million people from just a cell phone.... I love technology and where it will take us

Curious to know if any one agrees...

  1. Twitter's good but I found out this week that as with most social network a large percentage of the people registered aren't active users.

Of my thousand followers are, 25% are not using it for months at a time. Or never. Another large group are totally irrelevant to me. For instance, they are marketing something I don't care about.

Of the remaining 50% or so it's hard to figure out who is there to see my postings and of those who reads them.

When I put up a link a really good title will get up to 50 hits. Most get 10-20 and the first five are robots.

1000 followers, 20 hits on your posting. That tells you something doesn't it?

Use cl.gs.com to measure your hits on links if you are interested in measuring your social network influence in this way.

Happy new year. It's snowing here too.
